Ideas & Frameworks

Thinking made usable - the frames that keep returning across the work.

An idea earns the word framework only after it has survived being used by someone other than me.

Each live experiment in the Lab carries the question it is still trying to answer.

Why it exists

Ideas are cheap and frameworks are usually decoration. This page is where I keep the few that changed a decision.

It exists so you can steal the useful ones and argue with the rest.

Core idea

A frame is worth keeping when it changes what you do next, not when it explains what already happened.

So each one here is attached to the work that produced it and the question it has not answered yet.

Evidence

Where the frames are being tested:

How I think about it

I distrust any framework with four neat quadrants and no failure mode.

The best ones came out of a room going badly, not a whiteboard going well.

How it works

Each experiment in the Lab keeps its current question visible instead of presenting a conclusion.

When a frame stops working, it stays published with what broke it.

Questions and tensions

Fact: Every experiment listed in the Lab comes from work already running, not from a planning session.

Interpretation: Most of what passes for frameworks online is retrofitted storytelling.

Experiment: Publishing frames with their open question attached instead of a tidy conclusion.

Ambition: A small set of frames someone can run without me in the room.
